Zhuang Ze and Zhou Yunchen were staying in the same double room. The bed beside Zhuang Ze now lay empty, its neatly made white sheets resembling funeral drapes under the dim light—gloomy and lifeless.
Zhuang Ze stared at the ceiling, imagining himself lying on a bed of white flowers. If he closed his eyes, perhaps he’d drift into another world.
Ding. The door swung open. Zhou Yunchen stumbled in reeking of alcohol.
Zhuang Ze sat up in surprise. Zhou Yuncen grabbed his wrist as if afraid he’d flee, his eyes bloodshot as he hissed, “She’s in the room next door.”
Zhuang Ze’s chest tightened, unsure what this meant.
Zhou Yunchen stared at him, enunciating each word: “She’s showering there. Waiting for me.”
Zhuang Ze finally looked away, his lips barely moving. “Then go to her.”
Zhou Yunchen forced him to meet his gaze. “I’m going to sleep with her.”
“Oh.” Zhuang Ze’s face drained of color, his voice faint.
“Do you…” Zhou Yunchen—the one holding the knife—now sounded like the condemned. “Do you still like her?”
“Yes. I still like him.” How could I not? I wish I knew how to stop.
Zhou Yunchen’s fury dissolved into exhaustion. “She doesn’t like you.”
“It doesn’t matter.” This was all my fault from the start. I deserve this.
When Zhou Yunchen left, Zhuang Ze lay back and shut his eyes. Are they together now?
The soundproofing here is excellent.
How… convenient.
Zhuang Ze woke parched—a side effect of drinking. Finding no water in the room, he decided to walk to a convenience store he remembered nearby.
He opened the door and froze.
Zhou Yunchen leaned against the crimson hallway wall, legs crossed and shoulders slumped. His messy bangs shadowed his eyes, leaving only his thin lips and sharp jaw visible.
Both stared in surprise.
“What’s wrong?” Zhou Yunchen finally asked.
Zhuang Ze glanced at the neighboring room. Zhou Yunchen ran a hand through his hair, voice gruff. “She left.”
Zhuang Ze tried to hide his relief. “Oh.”
Zhou Yunchen laughed bitterly. “Happy? She’s still single.”
Zhuang Ze felt nothing. After the blonde girl, there’ll be a redhead, then a brunette. Never me.
Zhou Yunchen tugged his hair irritably. “I’ll buy you water.”
“I can go—”
“Go back!” Zhou Yunchen snapped.
“Okay…”
